Blood Moon: Interlude IV - The Weeping Maiden

By the time my vision returned, I found myself sat cross-legged on the damp stone floor of a dungeon. Slowly my eyes adjusted to the dim light and the blurry shapes that I saw came into focus. There, in front of me, was Lydia.

I called out to her, but it was evident that she couldn’t hear me – she remained on her knees, chained by her wrists, head bent forwards. I couldn’t see her face but I was certain it was her. I got to my feet and limped towards her cell, but found myself behind some kind of invisible barrier. She was crying softly, but I could not see any tears falling from her face.

My mind raced. What could I do? I was certain this wasn’t real, but what if it was? What if I was mere feet away from Lydia, unable to free her from imprisonment because of some unseen force? No, this was definitely not real. I paced the edge of the barrier and tried piecing my thoughts together. Then I realised. This was the last door. This was the final fear that Storm wanted to show me. Had he been helping me all along?

I stood in the centre of the room and closed my eyes, mustering every ounce of strength I could. With a yell I charged forward; determined to reach her, to stop her suffering. It worked, I passed through the space where the barrier had been, and the scene around me shattered like shards of glass. I had done it. I had passed the last test.
